Specialized Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) Services
Radiography (RT)Radiography is commonly used to examine for surface and subsurface discontinuities. Radiographic Testing can detect internal discontinuities such as voids, porosity, inclusions and cracks in castings and welds in a wide range of materials, sizes and shapes. The interpretation of radiographic film of welds requires not only knowledge of welding and welding discontinuities, but also the exercise of good judgment as to whether the discontinuities are actually defects. System One Radiography Technicians have extensive experience in film interpretation at both Level II and Level III status.System One offers radiographic services from both our in-house laboratory facilities and from our mobile dark rooms. Whether your radiographic needs are code related weld products, castings, or profile radiography for wall thickness measurement, System One has experience radiographers equipped with state-of-the-art technology to assure that your needs are met. Our mobile dark rooms are fully equipped to not only perform the radiographic operations and with film processing on site, but our trucks are also equipped to perform MT, PT and UT inspections. Our radiographers are normally certified technicians with multiple NDE disciplines. System One RT services utilize both Iridium and Cobalt sources for radiographic inspections. Radiography has a wide range of applications, from weld defect evaluation to profile views used for locating corrosion and blockages. Radiography is also used to determine concrete contents prior to core drilling and saw cutting. Digital Radiography (Digital RT)System One has found an increasing acceptance of Digital Radiography as clients better understand its value proposition. Digital RT essentially eliminates the need to evacuate whole floors or the entire operating area in order to perform radiographic inspections.Digital RT offers many benefits, including speed of execution; increase in productivity; decreased source strength; decreased barrier distance; increased accuracy; significant cost savings; no use of chemicals; no use of film; PC-based analysis software; image enhancement capabilities; easy replication; and most important, assurance that your equipment is safe for continued use. Each of these advantages has made Digital Radiography an invaluable asset. Measuring and evaluating wall thickness is provided by built-in analysis features, and since the software is PC based, this allows for editing on the digital pictures for better overall documentation. The end results are available by multi-media and can be printed, e-mailed or inserted into word documents for others to examine. Images can be stored on CDs or hard drives, making them retrievable and transmittable anywhere. This feature provides multiple inspectors/engineers the efficiency of instantaneous, real-time evaluation of the same radiographic image, regardless of location! Digital RT essentially eliminates traditional X-ray film, which is typically viewed through an intense light source and is difficult to replicate. Magnetic Particle (MT)Magnetic Particle is a nondestructive inspection method to identify surface discontinuities and even sub-surface flaws just below the surface of the component. MT is used on ferromagnetic materials such as iron, nickel, cobalt and other alloys that can be magnetized to a level that will allow the inspection to be effective.System One offers in-house test units for high volume inspection as well as portable units designed for quick and reliable testing at the client's site. Many different industries use magnetic particle inspection for determining a component's fitness for use. System One has provided MT services in the manufacturing, structural steel, automotive, petrochemical, fossil and nuclear power generation industries. Ultrasonic Testing (UT)Ultrasonic Testing indicates surface and subsurface discontinuities; the depth and exact size can be determined by the use of proper technique. One of the advantages of UT inspections is that the component examined does not have to be disassembled or removed.Ultrasonic pulses are directed into the test object, producing echoes and reflections which then indicate the presence, absence and location of flaws, interface and/or discontinuities. Inspecting for thickness determination may be made using either the resonance or pulse-echo technique. System One has a staff of experienced, certified Inspectors that are very skilled using this proven technology, providing our clients a high level of accuracy. Liquid Penetrant (PT)A Liquid Penetrant inspection is a physical and chemical test used for detecting and making visible to the naked eye surface related discontinuities in non-porous materials. PT is an excellent method for finding minute surface flaws. This method may be used on both ferrous and nonferrous materials.Solvent removable penetrant is the most common application. Evaluation is made with white ambient light. Water washable penetrant is a rapid and effective means of inspecting large areas or in locations where the solvent would have an injurious effect upon the material or personnel. The inspection is usually made with white light. Fluorescent penetrant — removable both by solvent or water and with evaluation made under ultraviolet light — is the most sensitive of the penetrant methods for inspection. System One provides both visible and fluorescent Liquid Penetrant examination services. Visual Inspection (VT)Visual Examination is generally used to determine such things as the surface condition of the part; reinforcement and undercutting of welds; alignment of mating surfaces; shape or evidence of leaking and typical inherent welding defects. System One follows area-specific inspection procedures to provide comprehensive, unbiased inspections through direct and remote visual examination, as well as visual inspections using artificial directional lighting.System One has a staff of experienced inspectors that will enable clients to receive a condition assessment of components as well as root-cause analysis and recommendations for corrective action, often resulting in boiler tube life extension. System One shares our clients' goal to minimize forced outages, thus positively impacting the clients' bottom line profitability by helping to eliminate repeat boiler tube failure. System One provides certified Visual Inspectors to various codes, such as AWS, API, ANSI/ASME, and ASNT. Certified Weld Inspection (CWI)System One has a staff of AWS-Certified Weld Inspectors providing welding inspection services for a broad range of code applications. Working directly for the client or major contractor, System One CWIs perform inspections verifying that the work conforms to the standards and codes required and that the work is inspected and records maintained.Borescope InspectionsSystem One's experienced Inspectors have performed borescope inspections on turbines (both gas and steam) as well as generators of all make and models. System One provides clients with comprehensive reports inclusive of digital images with defect measurements when applicable.System One provides a thorough, unbiased, condition assessment of its clients' turbines and generators using flexible borescope internal inspection equipment and digital imaging to provide remote analysis of components such as tubes, piping, valves and headers. |
