In the generation of Facebook, MySpace, YouTube and endless other high-tech ways to connect, is it any surprise that a new generation of resumes are landing on the web and within the inboxes of HR departments everywhere?
The growing trend of video resumes (or "vesumes") has increasingly replaced the standard paper resume that's been used in the past. Although video resumes are nothing new, with more and more people having internet and broadband in addition to the easy to use video programs, the number of people posting their resumes to the Internet has been rapidly growing.
If you are thinking about creating you own "vesume" here are some helpful tips to get you started.
- Dress professionally, just as you would for an in-person interview.
- Make sure to have good video quality to give a professional look to your vesume.
- Do a dry run to get used to speaking in front of the camera.
- Be concise when speaking, make eye contact and speak clearly.
- Showcase your skills and make sure to include and introduction, objectives, history and education.
- Try to keep video between 3-5 minutes in length
- Edit carefully and seek constructive feedback from professional and personal contacts.
